Marysville High School senior Allison Price ended her high school basketball career with a Division I district runner-up finish with the team.
Now, she will concentrate on playing the sport at the next level.
Price recently announced she will play hoops at Huntington University, an NAIA school located about 20 miles south of Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Price was the leading scorer (17.1 ppg) and one of only two lettermen who returned for the Lady Monarchs at the start of the 2024-25 campaign.
She helped lead the squad to an 11-13 record and the district runner-up (to eventual state champion Pickerington Central) finish.
Huntington was one of several schools that had attracted Price’s attention.
She had also looked at Malone College in Canton (where her sister Abbey played this past season as a freshman) and Ursuline.
“I had given a lot of thought to Malone and playing once again on the same team as my sister,” said Price. “In the end, however, I wanted to go my own path.
“I visited Huntington and the campus is very nice,” she said. “All of the team is nice and I love the head coach and the staff.”
The 2024-2025 Huntington women’s team advanced to the NAIA national championship tournament and took a 17-12 record into the post-season.
The team split two games in that event and finished with an overall mark of 18-13.
Price, who finished her high school career with more than 1,000 points, said Huntington plays a style of basketball that fits into her own game.
“They like to play a transition game and get up and down the court,” said Price. “That fits in well with what I like to do.
“They also play hard defense,” she said.
“Allison is the hardest-working player that I have ever been around or coached,” said Lady Monarch coach Justin Price. “She spends countless hours perfecting her game and in practices, she was the most competitive player on the floor.
“Her humility, work ethic, determination and competitiveness are her greatest attributes,” said the coach. “She is also a great teammate who has developed meaningful relationships with upper and underclassmen alike.”
Price was described as the “the heart and soul” of the Lady Monarch team this past season.
“She had a bullseye on her back every single game,” said the MHS coach. “She led the team in every major statistical category, while being face-guarded more often than not. She led by example and wanted the ball when things got tight.
“Her ability to get to the basket and to hit deep 3’s was unmatched in Central Ohio,” said the coach. “Allison’s development as a basketball player over the last four years has been amazing and it’s a true testament to her work ethic and dedication to the craft.
“She will be greatly missed on the Marysville team,” he said.
