By From JT Staff Reports

Nine fire departments responded to a residential fire on Wednesday that led to heavy damage to a home.

The fire was reported at 5:14 p.m. at a home in the 22000 block of Darby Pottersburg Road. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no injuries were reported.

Fire crews from the Allen Township Fire Department, Northwestern Fire District, Marysville Fire Division, Northern Union County Fire and EMS District, Union Township Fire Department, Jerome Township Division of Fire, Perry Township Fire Department, Northeast Champaign County Fire District and West Liberty Fire Department responded to the home to assist in putting out the fire.

Captain Ryan Heckel with the Allen Township Fire Department said the home sustained heavy damage, noting that the initial 911 call reported an explosion coming from the garage of the home. He said there was some damage to the garage door but the cause of it was undetermined. He also said there were some cats reported but they didn’t find any while working the scene.

Deputies with the Union County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene to assist.
